I had previously posted and requested information about Sea World in San
Antonio and the surrounding area. I received wonderful information from
many people.

We found that it wasn't that difficult to take snacks and water into the
park with us, in a stroller. However, we left the park to picnic for lunch
near our vehicle. We were able to park very close, even though we weren't
in the Shamu parking lot, though I was perfectly willing to go to the Shamu
parking lot. We found the Outback restaurant nearby and I would have loved
to get some of the Mexican that was touted, but had a sick child, so didn't
get to try it out. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, once I knew that
we had few choices in the park itself.

I recommend the restaurant outside just outside the waterski show. They
had deli meat (turkey, ham) and french fries. I walked right up and asked
for the manager. They were young, so I explained I needed them to put on
new gloves due to cross contamination, and not to grab any meat on top
since it might have bread crumbs on it.

My daughter did just fine..........OUtside the park, we ate at a
Vietnamese restaurant called Vietnam restaurant on Broadway (about 5 min
from the Riverwalk).

Sea World

First, they are very nice and even thought they do not allow outside food
they will let you bring a cooler because of a medical diet, you just need
to work it out with them before you visit. That said, I have never done
this only been told they would be happy to work with me.

Second, there are 2 types of parking. For an extra couple of dollars you
can have Samu preferred parking. This puts you near the gate. Also, you
can have your hand stamped for reentry. Generally, we leave the park and
get our had stamped and have a picnic lunch in the parking lot. There are
some trees and grassy areas to sit, so bring a towel or blanket. We use
the Samu parking because we do not have to walk so far to get our
lunch. In reality the additional cost of parking is completely offset by
the whole family eating a picnic vs. buying it in the park.

Third, there is an Outback Steakhouse on route 410 which you will pass as
you leave the park. It is between the park and route 281 which would be
the main access back to downtown San Antonio.

Finally, I generally have snacks in my purse. To date this has not been an
issue and they searched my purse on my last visit.

San Antonio in General

The primary health food stores are Whole Foods and Sun Harvest. There are
various locations all over the city.

The closest gluten-friendly restaurant that I know of to Sea World is Asia
Kitchen, which is just south of I 410 and Marbach on the access road at 1739
SW Loop 410. The owners, Pat and Sallie, are familiar with gluten-free
requirements and will make sure your order is GF. However, lunch is not the
best time to eat there, as they are very busy. The evening meal would be a
better choice.

Not close to Sea World, but a Mexican restaurant where the owner has made an
effort to provide for celiacs is Paloma Blanca at 5148 Broadway.

For great Persian fare, try Shiraz at 4230 McCullough.

We always eat at the cafe and order Samantha
a club without the bread. They also have plenty of fresh fruit.
