1. Anheuser Busch who make Budweiser makes no official claim that their beer is gluten-free but they will say that after the brewing process their beer tests negative for gluten. One respondent actually confirmed this with a call to them. Another documented it via Beer Fox. I used a Google search.
2. A number asked if Budweiser is gluten-free why does Anheuser Busch continue making Redbridge which they do officially declare gluten-free. Redbridge does cost nearly four times what some of their beers sell for. There is an assumption here that if they make Redbridge than Budweiser is not gluten-free. This seems a stretch to me.
3. It was pointed out that the reduced particles from the barley are still present in
Budweiser and could possibly cause a Celiac reaction. I view this a valid especially for hyper-sensitive individuals.
4. One Celiac said he had drunk Bud for years without ill effects and he knew of others likewise. One respondent said she had heard of others tolerating it with "no problems." One said that Budweiser make her husband "really sick.' I have taken note of her caveat and that is why I say for myself, so far, so good.
5. There were a number who expressed the sediment that it is better to be safe than sorry. I have no argument with this or reasonable caution and rational fear.
6. One mailer said that he was "blasted" for stating Budweiser's claim to the point that he even removed his membership from CSA. The biblical Greek word heresy means only another view and crucifixion is not in order. I can say none of those who emailed me blasted me although disagreeing with the possibility of my offering.
7. I expect the debate to go on and this is healthy. Cheers!
