Hi list.

Thank you for your sympathy and responses. You are indeed an
encouraging and supportive group!

Well, not having heard from the elite company (after having been
promised), even tho it had been only 24 hours, I gave them another
call. This time I got to the head marketing manager named Gidi (direct
line: 972-3-9246342). He told me that he had gotten my message and
investigated "Casino" for me. Before he decided to be nice, he
threatened to take action against me because I had put out my "warning"
on this list. WOW! THE POWER OF THE INTERNET! Either he himself keeps
tabs on the list (which I doubt) or he got a call or 2 from other
concerned celiacs. Either way, this IS how to get things done. He told
me he didn't know who I talked to, but that I was wrong and insisted
that I put out an immediate retraction. I told him I couldn't do that
until I got the promised list and read it for myself since the customer
rep. told me she got her info from the list. I had only relayed info I
had received from their own rep. If the rep doesn't rep the co in
consumer matters, she shouldn't be answering phones.
He called back later saying that indeed "Casino" had appeared on an
older list as having gluten. This was apparently the list the customer
rep. had referred to. So, he appologized and I agreed to make a
tentative retraction (as if *I* hold some kind of influence over masses
of buyers...), conditional on my getting the new list and seeing for
myself.

So, when I receive it, I will translate it in its entirety. Elite
exports a lot of chocolate and snack food and I understand their
wanting to be fairly represented.

I went to the local grocery store and just to see, I checked some of
their obviously gluten-laden items. Sure enough, the ones I checked DO
state that they contain gluten. So, in summary, my caveat still stands,
as it should for all of us - beware and don't take anything for
granted. As for Casino in particular, the person who should know
insists it's OK. I still await the list.

My next target is Osem, also a big exporter. Stay tuned....

Have a safe weekend,
Sharon Marcus
