I asked advice on Gluten Free foods availability in England for our
forthcoming holiday. There were eight prompt replies replies and the precis
of these are as follows:
a) Dimon Miran wrote, having only left the UK in the previous 6 Months, to
advise shoppig at Boots the Chemist for biscuits bread and noodles.
b) Olumpia Hadhimichael wrote to look for products such as Glutafin from
Nutricia Dietary Priducts Ltd.
c) Howard Moraf recommended I write to the British Coeliac Society PO Box
220 High Wycombe Bucks HP11 - 2HY after his success with them. Paul Smith,
Roger D (Antrim, N.Ireland) and Sue Esterman offered similar advice.
d) Bev Chevalier assured me that armed with a Doctors Note, the carrying of
Rice cakes through British Customs would not raise eyebrows.
e) Maggie Sidle suggested the wheat in the UK is not perhaps as glutenous
as that in the US. Im pretty sensitive about these things so Ill take care.
She also recommended Holland and Barret Health Stores for GF supplies.
f) Don Wiss gave advice on eating out in Indian reatuarants. He also said
to watch out for their use of vinegar instead of Lime Juice for marinades
and cheeses, canned tomato paste with HVP. He also advised that they often
may cook with GF foods but contaminate when in the same pan or oven as flour
items.
g) Judith Jalco Please note the above in answer to your request to be
copied information received,

Sue Esterman also suggested that I get information from the Australian
Coeliac Society. They provide a very good service through their office and
they are on my list of contacts. When I went to Vietnam they gave me a
Vietnamese translation of my condition which was invaluable on more than one
occasion.

I always look to see the range of sources of replies to thes questions. I
noted that these came from UK,
US and New Zealand. Pretty good we reckon, much appreciated and thanks to all.
