My Original Questions: Can anyone refer a Los Angeles doctor/center for the lactulose and
glucose breath test, please? I have someone who wants to check into
this test.

Also, can anyone tell me their "success" or changes they experienced
after getting this test ( positive result)- and what was done or any
changes for a handling?
************************ RESPONSES BELOW...thank you everyone!

1) I did take the test in Dr. Green's office at Columbia in NYC, he is the head of the research center for Celiac. I did find out I was lactose intolerant. The test is 4 hrs. long. - you breathe into a tube every hour after receiving lactose liquid.I am now off all dairy because the lactose pills don't really work. I have a diary allergy, which is different than lactose.

2) I have had the glucose test done in Canada and it did not work at all - what worked was the blood test after the 12 hour fast.... They were testing for diabetes and my urine tests were showing some bizarre results yet my blood tests did not show diabetes yet so they tried the glucose breathing test with no negative or positive results when compared to others. So we are just watching for diabetes now. The doctors/specialist came to a possible conclusion that it might have been that I had lost about 75 pounds over 2 years (doctor/dietitian supervised) and now that my body has stabilized that it will become more normal, which it has. However there are also 11 medications that I am taking that could affect and simulate diabetes and cause the glucose test results to test the incorrect way too.

3)I had this test and was positive for small intestine bacterial
overgrowth. It is an easy test, takes a few hours and about 3 or 4 breath tests
(breath into a straw type thing) every hour or so after drinking a special
drink. I was treated twice with antibiotics and then took good probiotics and can say
it worked great. I had severe villi damage when I was diagnosed with CD and was
very slow to heal and had continued symptoms. This was part of the overall treatment but 2 years after being diagnosed by biopsy with complete villous atrophy I had an EGD and repeat biopsies which showed complete healing. EGD is an upper GI scope test, they can look at your stomach, duodenum and first part of the small intestine and take biopsies. I had a colonoscopy done at the same time. I take Align probiotics. I was off all dairy (use Almond Milk) but
have reintroduced yogurt and cheese with no problems. I try to limit sugar
but have to admit that is my weakness. Hi again, here is a link to the Celiac Center at BIDMC in Boston, this is where I go.

4)I had a glucose breath test at my gasterenterologists near Seattle. I was found to have very high levels of methane gas causing a bacterial infection in my small intestines and was treated with Xifaxin for 10 days. I was much better after that and am now able to better tolerate carbs. Good luck finding somebody in the Los Angeles area.
