At 1:53 PM -0500 4/23/05, Bev Messner's summary on beer noted one
respondent said:

Living in Tucson, I had not heard this! So I checked into it as much
as I could in a few minutes late on a Saturday (i.e., - Google and my
favorite local vendor of spirits), & until I hear otherwise, I will
NOT be racing to that vendor for a six-pack of Negra Modelo.

Most reviewers described (& I recall) Negra Modelo as "malty".

I could not load Modelo's corporate site, but the cached text at
Google included this description of their ingredients:
"Malt -
Malt is obtained through the controlled germination of barley - a
process known as malting. The germinated barley is dried, and
sometimes roasted - a process which determines the color of the
finished beer."

and this page speaks of their US malting plant, located to be near
the barley fields of Montana and Idaho:

so... Could the person who replied to Bev check their sources again for us?!
I also learned BC (before celiac) that if something sounds too good
to be true, it probably isn't.

Jack
