I had horrible sleeping problems my entire life until after I went
gluten free. But it wasn't the gluten that was disturbing my sleep - it
was only after I identified all my other food sensitivites (milk, corn,
soy) that I started sleeping well. I now sleep better than in my entire
life - excpet if I have a food exposure, I always have trouble sleeping.
My suggestion for you would be that you stop all dairy and stop sugar
too (just in case you have a yeast overgrowth) - try that for one week
and see if it makes a difference.

To be honest, I am going for a sleep test this month. The problem
seems to be anxiety, since I seem to wake up early with heart
palpitations and my thoughts racing. I also have to pee a few times a
night.

I have tried Ambien, but no effect. Restoril/Temazapam works, but it
can make me groggy during the day. Just trying something new now.

What I found helped back then was a supplement called OsteoPrime Forte
made
by PhytoPharmica (or Enzymatic Therapy -- same company). Even sometimes

now, I occasionally get twitchy, crampy legs that can disturb me at
night.
To prevent this, I always take a potassium supplement at bedtime.

I had exactly the same sleep problem - which lead in part my diagnosis
of
celiac. Turned out I was deficient in vitamin B12 - searching for the
cause
led to diagnosis of celiac. There are strong and well documented links
between
sleep disorders and B12 deficiency. About 3 days after beginning
extremely
high dose B12 supplements, I could sleep for up to 6 hours. 18 months
later, I
average 6 to 7 hours per night.

Many (probably most) GF foods lack adequate B12 - have your doctor check
your
level, and if it is below 500, consider supplements. I've tried both
shots and
pills; for me the pills work much better because I get the same dose
every
day. With the shot, I'd have a good week, next week so-so, third week no
sleep
again.

I have had trouble sleeping for years. Ever since I went on a reduced
yeast
diet and greatly reduced my processed sugars, I have been sleeping
great.
Coincidence - maybe,maybe not?

Could you possibly be taking thyroid medication and not having it
monitored enough. Once you heal and start absorbing, you don't need as
much of a dosage. That is what happened with me.
Or ..... perhaps you have an overactive thyroid that hasn't been
diagnosed.
Most people will tell you they have tons more energy after diagnosis and
going GF.

There may be several reasons for your sleeping problems. Are you taking
a good B-complex vitamin? You haven't said how old you are. How are your
hormone levels?

Are you stressed? Is everything else in your life going okay? Do you
live far from a WalMart? In the vitamin section they have a good Super
B-Complex from Nature Made. It's really cheap there, and it's Gluten
Free, and they have a great herbal tea to help bring about calm and
rest. It's called Sleepytime Plus. It's only about 2.67 for 20 tea bags.
It has Chamomile, and some other herbs. It's in the vitamin section too.
I drink some every night. I have a lot of stress, so I need help...

Has your doctor checked your hormones? Sometimes, our hormones can cause
havoc on our sleep patterns too.
*********************************
Since getting my diet straight, I find I have an incredible amount of
energy and don't have the desire to sleep like I used to. I go, go , go

constantly. Before dx, I couldn't get past 10am without wanting to take
a
nap. Now I'm up at 8am Saturday mornings, looking forward to going to
the
gym for exercise class.
*********************************
Have you investigating the possibility of magnesium
deficiency? Perhaps a magnesium taurate supplement
would be helpful (mag taurate seems to be the best
form; also the taurine that the magnesium is bound
with has some helpful effects sleepwise too). Mag
deficiency seems to be common in people with celiac
disease. Try doing a search for "magnesium" and
"sleep" or "taurine" and "sleep".
**********************************************

Again, thank you so much for your suggestions and comments.
