Subject: Summary of: summarizing and candida

All,

I wrote an original post about posting summaries and about candidiasis. I
waited for a week before I even started to summarize to give time for me to
receive all the responses I was going to get. Then my life was taken over
by the need to prepare for Ivan. I feel so lucky to have power as 80% of
the people in my area do not have power (and we are 200 miles inland).

I have decided to do 2 kinds of summary. The first summary is a very basic
summary of cure suggestions. The second summary provides all the original
posts minus identifying information. I did it this way because others
expressed displeasure with not being able to read the contents of the
original post.

Basic Summary

Things not to eat
Sugar, mushrooms, alcohols, wine, aged/fermented foods such as cheese and
vinegar, carbohydrates, food with yeast in it, corn, stay on a low
carbohydrate diet,
(At one point I did see an MD, Orian Truss, who has written books on
candidiasis and he told me to eat no more than 80 grams of carbohydrates per
day, use only yeast free vitamins, eat only fresh foods to avoid mold on
food, not eat foods/condiments that contain vinegar, not eat
pickled/smoked/processed meats, not eat anything dried including dried
fruits and dried herbs/teas, not eat fruit juices unless freshly squeezed,
eat only peeled fruits, eat only nuts that you have shelled yourself in
order to avoid molds on preshelled nuts)

What follows are the original responses to my original post.

(New post)
I think in extreme cases Nystatin can be used. Even then, I'd do everything
to find an alternative. Yeast is stubborn,

(New post)
This is how I conquered the chronic candida that plaqued me for many years:

(1) 2 weeks of ketoconazole, a powerful prescription anti-fungal
(2) Kefir - one to two cups a day - the cheapest & easiest source of
probiotics period. (more information below)
(3) Low sugar diet. I restrict sweets to once a week and limit other
refined carbohydrates as well.
(4) I take Thorne Bio-Gest, a complete digestive enzyme complex, with
each & every meal. It's pricey but worth every penny.

I think I should mention the other thing that help my candida
problem
-- having my thyroid properly treated. Adequate thyroid hormone is
essential for the parastalsis to move bowels regularly. Regular bowel
habits are important for controlling candida.

It's so nice not to be bloated & sluggish all the time! Before treatment I
had candida so bad, my mouth was broken out with little white spots & I had
a rash on my tush. The above interventions keep it away.

KEFIR

Kefir is a delicious cultured milk beverage, sort of like yogurt, but more
fluid. It contains more microorgamisms than yogurt & is much easier to make
because it doesn't require special equipment like yogurt does. Kefir is
highly recommended (especially in Eastern Europe) as a remedy for many GI
disorders such as constipation, diarrhea, candidiasis, irritable bowel
syndrome, Crohn's disease, colitis, etc. Kefir has done wonders for my
chronic GI problems.

Ready made kefir can be purchased at health food stores and some grocery
stores. Kefir can be inexpensively made at home two different ways:

(1) You can buy powdered Yogourmet kefir starter at the health food store
(six packets for less than $5) & follow the directions. It's very simple
& requires no special equipment. This is not the real original kefir,
but it makes a very nice cultured milk product with many probiotic
healthful benefits. It's especially good made from goat milk.

-OR-

(2) You can get real kefir grains free from anyone you find willing to
share them with you. They look like little cauliflowers and turn regular
milk into kefir in about 24 hours at room temperature. They grow in
milk, so once you start making kefir with real kefir grains, you'll soon
have enough to share with others. They last for years if you feed them
regularly. See these websites for more detailed information:
