Hi all,

Well I had my visit with the opthamalogy surgeon today. The news is that my
cataracts (both eyes - only one had been picked up by the optometrist) are
caused by steroids.

More specifically, inhaled steroids for my asthma (COPD) and prednisone
(prescribed every time I have had an allergic reaction to medications as
prescribed by GP).

As I cannot have a local anaesthetic (due to allergic reactions alleviated
by prednisone), I am scheduled for general anaesthetic and two operations
late October and early November.

On lenses - I will be having a singular lens, which means that I will no
longer need glasses except for close work. That is going to be different,
having worn progressive lens glasses for the past 21 years.

Well, I hope this alerts others to the side effects of steroids that we have
not been told about.

Regards,
Sylvia,
Australia
