I received four responses on this topic:

1. "And when they apply for a job they do not have to say that they
had CD which can keep them from getting insurance from a few companies"

2. This is exactly what happened with my misdiagnosis. My Gastro guy
told the pathologist reading my biopsies to "rule out crohn's" (which my
brother has). And, she couldn't. So I was treated with pentasa and mega
doses of iron for 2 years before my PCP suspected Celiac disease. Luckily,
I had just changed PCP's, and she said, "Of course you've been tested for
Celiac disease", to which I said no.

3. The third one just thanked me, indicated that she was persuaded by
an article written by Kenneth Fine, M.D. in which he apparently stated that
the new gold standard should be how the patient responds to the diet. She
also asked that I not publicize her post so I have tried to capture the
essence of what she said.

4. "I'm glad to see your post. I tried to post a scary article some
years ago about the dangers of endoscopy but it was rejected by the
listowners, and not because of length, I'm pretty sure."

Thanks to all who wrote and the many more who gave the matter some thought.

Best Wishes,

Ron
