I've been canned by my own Primary Care Physician. Can you believe it? When I
requested the referral to Dr. David Watts at UCSF, based on the info I had
gathered on Celiac, he responded by leaving me a message saying he thinks it
would be best if I found another PCP within my HMO "who is interested in
pursuing your case." In other words, HE'S NOT! Now mind you, I can understand
his frustration; He's referred me to several specialists over the last year,
to pin down the source of my symptoms, including a G.I. doc. but it's still a
blow, especially after getting so focused on the possibility of Celiac. I
have the appointment scheduled. I even have the biopsy scheduled, incase the
doctor thinks it's warranted. Now I'm back to square one.

I've known for a while that I need a new PCP because this guy is just your
typical "There's nothing medically wrong with you, it's just depression" type
of doctor who's only been humoring me up to now with referrals. I think he's
full of it, and I don't think that my symptoms are due to depression. I wish
he was right, though. Just pop some Prozac and BOOM all better! But thats not
the case with me. Prozac doesn't make me unfatigued, undizzy, unweak, unIBS,
or unsick!

*here's where the "questions" comes in* Part of me wants to just go to the
appointment anyway and pay for it out of pocket. Is it really expensive? If I
get the biopsy and it's positive I'll freaking sue the pants off him for his
negligence. Of course, knowing my luck lately, the biopsy will be negative, I
won't have Celiac, and it'll all be a waste. No wait, it wouldn't be a waste
because then I'd know finally. But wait, then I might not know because even
if it's negative I still might benefit from a GF diet, right? Ho boy it's so
confusing! Oye!

Oh well, just wanted to share that with y'all. Hope you don't mind. Any
insight is much appreciated, even if it's an "I've been there" type of deal.

Patrick
