I have been conscious of my celiac disease since about 1993. Since then
I've been on the gf diet. However, a few years later I finally figured
out that cosmetics were making me terribly ill. Because I'd successfully
kept gluten out of the diet my system became very sensitive to minute
exposure. The amounts I injested via lipsticks, powders, foundations,
creams, were enough to make me very ill.

Upon discontinuing the use of all of these I regained my health. When I
use products, my symptoms return and to my knowledge there has not been
any cosmetic companies with the exception of Colgate/Palmolive, able to
verify that their products are indeed gluten free. When they do it's
never proof on paper, evidence that they themselves made the claim, ie.
company letterhead. And then they only take it back later on, time and
time again, claiming to have been mistaken.

Starches are used galore in manufacturing these chemicals. And there are
no laws protecting us aimed at the cosmetic industry, for one due to LACK
of research. So, I've always had problems with make-up and skin care
stuff. It's not a fallacy. The issue needs to be addressed and I'm very
glad the gf pantry is doing this. There simply isn't enough research
done. That requires money that hasn't been invested in it enough so.

But common sense should dictate that if you cannot break a substance down,
do not apply it all over you. Simple as that. It's risky in my opinion.
We have the choice however, but I don't let doctors do the dictating, for
one because I can't afford to. I know when I feel like myself and when I
do not.

Andrea
