Hi, everyone:
We have finally tallied the numbers for the San Diego Walk/Run for Celiac
Disease, held May 22 at Mission Bay. Nearly 1500 people from several states
attended the event, and nearly $51,000 was raised! Our event featured a
free celiac screening, sponsored by Prometheus Laboratories Inc. and The
Binding Site. Michelle Pietzak, M.D. - pediatric gastroenterologist and
world-renowned celiac expert was the medical director for the blood draw
(THANK YOU!). A large expo featured about 25 exhibitor booths, and dozens
of other companies donated products for the silent auction, raffle, and
giveaways. The San Diego event was only one of many tremendously successful
events throughout the world. Money raised will be used to promote the
efforts of CFCR (Center for Celiac Research), which is working to better
understand celiac disease with the goals of developing better testing
methods and a cure for the condition. Perhaps one of the most
incredible things to come out of this annual worldwide event is the
awareness of celiac disease. The San Diego event was catalyst for several
newspaper articles and radio and television features, and some radio
stations were kind enough to donate public service announcements that ran
frequently.

Thank you SO much to everyone who volunteered, participated, and donated.
This year's event was so successful that we're inspired to start working on
next year's event beginning in July. If anyone would like to help, please
let me know!
Warmly,
Danna Korn
