Hello,

Thanks to everyone who replied to my message about the recent changes to Udi bread. It was interesting to hear what everyone thought. I had 12 people agree with me that it was really a terrible change. But, a few liked it, really liked it! I found that good to hear. Several people noted that it tasted like Wonder Bread, and to me that explained a lot. I never did like Wonder Bread, but it is an iconic brand, so it is not surprising that a texture and taste emulating it would have some fans.

I took the suggestions to complain to Udi directly, but I have not heard back yet. I also did use my loaf up without sending it to the compost pile. I used it to hide the dog’s pills and to make French toast. It was good French toast! In the meantime, I took the opportunity to make a run to Aldi. Their store is not convenient for me, but their bread is relatively inexpensive and truly delicious (if Wonder bread isn’t your thing).

Others suggested using it for grilled cheese, for making bread crumbs, and for feeding the birds. A full loaf of bread crumbs would practically be a lifetime supply for me, so that was not my way to go, but makes sense if you can use them! As a veterinarian, let me plead that we not feed bread to wild birds! I know it is a long standing tradition, and that birds like it, but it is not healthy for them! Most people don’t know that, but when we learn better we can do better!

Thank you everyone! We have a great community!
Warm wishes for healthy and delicious GF eating!

My original message:

Hello All,

I have to admit, I thought or hoped that people were exaggerating when talking about the new formulation of Udi’s bread, but I tried my new loaf this week, and could not even finish a piece of toast—one of my favorite simple pleasures. So my question are: does anyone like it? And, has anyone found anything good to make with it? I sure hate to put a brand new loaf out for compost.

I will summarize.
