summary: Unfortunately, there are no clear medical responses that indicate CD
disappears and we can go back to eating gluten. I received numerous responses
indicating people, like myself, had symptoms that went away and then
resurfaced again many years later. Some said they get along fine without
worrying about trace amounts of gluten and one even said he eats an occasional
hamburger bun without problems. Some wonder whether or not they still have
the problem. I asked my G.I yesterday about transitional gluten intolerance
and he said once you have CD you have it for life. He also said the longer
you remained undiagnosed the greater chance you have of developing cancer so
every celiac who was undiagnosed for many years should get a small bowell
xray.
