>>If this relationship exists, then maybe I do not need to treat the asthma
symptoms. I am not a big fan of pharmaceutical drugs and avoid them
unless necessary. If a GF diet is sufficient to treat this problem, I will
stick with the diet and bag the drugs. I would appreciate any response
to this theory from folks who have had this kind of experience or from
those who know something about the cd/asthma link. Thanks.<<

I am a mild, chronic asthmatic and also have CD. I have been on a GF diet
for 18 years, and have always required drugs to control my asthma
symptoms. If there indeed is a link between CD and asthma, unless you
have EXTREMELY mild asthma symptoms, you will probably need help,
even if you are on a strict GF diet. Since there are so many types of
asthma (mine is allergy- and exercise-induced), some types might
benefit from a GF diet, while other types have different triggers, and
would therefore require drug control. I would hesitate before completely
dropping the asthma drugs; asthma can kill if you don't have emergency
rescue drugs available. I presently use an albuterol inhaler to control
attacks; I generally use it once a day as symptoms demand, but I can go
without for stretches that last a few weeks if conditions are right.

Better living through chemistry! ;)
