Recently I spent some time looking on the internet for whey protein
that is both gluten-free and lactose-free, and I stumbled across BiPro
whey protein. I wrote to Davisco Foods, the makers of BiPro, and
asked them if their product is gluten-free.

I received two responses within a few days from their customer service
people assuring me that BiPro whey protein does not contain gluten:
the only ingredient other than pure whey isolate is ".05% lecithin to
aid in dispersion." Also, their website lists the ingredients as: Whey
protein isolate, less than 1.5% soy lecithin added to aid in product
dispersibility.

It's supposed to be extremely low in lactose as well. Their FAQ says:
"BiPro gives you the great benefits of dairy without the lactose. One
tablespoon of BiPro contains less than 0.1 gram of lactose, which is
less than the amount of lactose found in one cup of yogurt. Research
studies have shown that most people with lactose intolerance can
safely consume this low, negligible amount of lactose with no
discomfort."

Their website explains a lot more about the product: http://www.biprousa.com/

I haven't tried it yet because it is a bit expensive, but I think I'll
buy some soon. If anyone else has used BiPro, please let me know if
you have had positive or negative experiences.

(By the way, this is not an ad. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in
December 2004. I work out at the gym 4 to 5 times a week lifting
weights and I have always used glutamine and whey protein powders to
supplement my daily protein intake. Designer Whey Protein has served
me well, but I have been concerned that it may have enough lactose to
cause problems for me.)

Thanks,
Rob
