I question that statement.  According to manufacturer letters we've received,
Eckrich, Hillshire Farm, Johnsonville, and Purnell's all make one or more
varieties of "breakfast" sausages that are gluten-free.  Also, Louis Rich
and Cuddy Family Farms make poultry-based GF sausage.  (I'm NOT saying ALL the
varieties of sausage made by these companies are GF; always read the
ingredients list.)
 
If sausage has cereal in it, it should be stated in the ingredients list.
