Hi! I am wondering if anyone can give me any info on the
differences/similarities of celiac and carbohydrate intolerance. In "84 I
suddenly developed GI symptoms that quickly took over my life. So many
docs just said " here take these you are too stressed out " because they
could never find anything wrong. They did every test and tried different
meds. None of the meds relieved the symptoms. I gave up and learned to
live with the problem. About a year ago my boyfriend who is a nurse
did some research on my health problems and found your group. We began
reading the posts and I began the GF diet. My symptoms improved probably by
75% but they never completely went away, each day remained a tightrope
walk. My current doctor told me two weeks ago that I may never in my life
see pain free days and prescribed Visteril (an anti-anxiety drug). This
was post endoscopy/sigmoidoscopy/bloodtests. Everything came back
negative for celiac. I guess the GF diet could cause those
results. Anyway he told me to eat gluten as he was positive I
wasn't celiac. Boy, did I get sick! So, no more gluten challenges for me!
My question here is this. On the suggestion of Don Wiss I drastically cut
back carbohydrates and I am getting even healthier. This includes
potatoes, and most dairy products. I haven't had a sick day since I did
this. ( Except for when I dearly desired french fries or chocolate.)
I just don't understand all this. I am concerned about getting enough
carbs to be healthy. I know I can make this diet work with time and
effort. And I really wish I could find some form of chocolate : ).
Being in nrsing school full time right now seems to be taking most of my
energies. What I have left after spending so much on trying to stay
semi-healthy! Looking forward to pain free days. : )
