This is going to be part rant and part warning. I had to wait for a prescription to be ready at my local Rite Aid and imagine my abject horror when I witnessed the lab tech open a box of dog biscuits, hand one to a drive thru customer, and keep on handling prescriptions as if he didn't just introduce a toxin into the pharmacy environment. My regular pharmacist wasn't there so I didn't say anything, but this is obviously a standard practice at this pharmacy because the customer requested it. Needless to say, I washed down the bottles when I got home, but still the real threat of getting a contamination reaction is lurking in the back of my mind.

I'm annoyed that I will have to find another pharmacy, as this one is close to home and has always been good about checking for gluten in my prescriptions. But I absolutely cannot tolerate that they would so inconsiderately and cavalierly introduce one of the major allergens within the pharmacy environment, spreading that through the air. He also did not wash his hands afterwards. This is one more thing that I didn't even have on my radar screen as a concern for contamination. I know I'm sure to get some sideways looks when I ask my potential pharmacy about food and dog biscuit practices in their pharmacy, but at least I won't have that to worry about.

For my fellow highly sensitive Listmates, I wanted to alert you to just one more annoying thing we have to be vigilant against by non-thinking, non-affected individuals who see no harm in their seemingly minor actions.

Susan
