I need help on how to correctly approach a pharmacist about filling a
prescription. I recently had to fill a prescription for Bactrum for a sinus
infection. I thought I approached him correctly and asked for his help. I
explained about the dangers of hidden glutens and asked if he could verify
with the pharmaceutical company if the drug was gluten-free. His reaction
shocked me! He acted like I asked him to cut off his arm for me. He
eventually did call the company and fortunately I could take the
prescription. If it wasn't ,he explained to me, that there was no way he
could help me.I left after he lectured me about how we are all responsible
for our own health and that this is MY responsibility! I explained that I am
not a pharmacist and don't know the first thing about compounding my own
drugs!!

My question is, Isn't this his job? What did I do wrong? Maybe the ordering
physician should be more responsible? I did tell the doctor to just write
Gluten-Free on the order, but maybe that's not good enough. Any suggestions
for future presciption-filling fun would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Donna
