I received lots of great feedback on Riviera Maya near Cancun Mexico all-
inclusives. This seems like a great area with many accomodating hotels.
Thanks to all for the information.

Sharon

Stayed a week in the Aventura, very nice place, ate in the special
restaurant they have .the maitre de was very helpful and was able to
determine what I could eat and most of it was ok . did eat in the buffet
lunch and breakfast and choose what i thought was ok, i had no problem

We stayed at the Barcelo in January. It was wonderful.
I took a restaurant card in English and Spanish.
I gave it to the person in charge of the dining room and they were
extremely helpful. They would make anything we asked for, the head chef
came out at every meal and went down the line and told me what we could
eat. One night they had a strawberry dessert and it did have flour in
it so they came out with a whole plate full of fresh strawberries.

I did have a reaction two times, the first time I had two things so I am
not sure it was either the eggs or the chocolate I sprinkled on my
cappuccino.I ate the eggs again later in the week and had a
reaction again.

You do have to observe how they make things, they make the pancakes on
the same grill as the omelets. I did stay away from a lot of food, but I
had plenty to eat--actually too much.

It is very easy to eat in most Mexican restaurants when you get to
Cancun or Riviera Maya. They use corn a lot and their spices are fresh
and pure not the packaged mixes like we have. I have been to Cancun two
times, I love it there and I plan to return soon.

We travel to Mexico/Cancun every year. If you go to Royal Resorts/Royal
Carribean., there they know what gluten free is. The food and beverage mgr.
takes very good care of me while we visit for several weeks.
It is a time share, but anyone can go. It is not all inclusive.
It is child friendly and safe and have a lot of families they come back
every year.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Moon Palace
resort in the Riviera Maya area last October. I
didn't have any trouble at all finding food. Most of
the meals were served buffet style and I usually found
a variety of food I could eat. Moon Palace is a very
large resort with several different restaurants to
choose from, including Mexican, Italian, Oriental,
Spanish, and a Grill near the pools. Breakfast was
the most difficult so I ended up eating omelettes most
of the time.

By staying at Moon Palace we also had the opportunity
to eat at other Palace Resort properties in Cancun,
which not only saved on cost but helped ease our
worries of accidental gluten ingestion.

A couple other tips - the beach at Moon Palace isn't
one of the pretty beaches you see in Cancun brochures.
A reef deposits a lot of seaweed on shore. The
resort does their best to clean it up every day, but
most people didn't seem to swim in the ocean there.
Instead, they have awesome pools where the guests
gathered. If you want to swim in the ocean, you can
always travel to one of the other Palace properties in
Cancun which have picturesque beaches. Moon Palace
also has a water purification system and provides
bottled water to guests. I even used bottled water to
brush my teeth. That can make a world of difference
to those of us with sensitive digestive tracts.

Moon Palace is divided into two sections, Punta Nizuc
and Sunrise. We stayed at Sunrise, which appears to
be newer and the buildings are a little further apart.

Finally, Moon Palace sells timeshares like many of the
resorts in the area. They will invite you to a
champagne breakfast after you arrive where they will
give the timeshare presentation. We didn't attend,
but most of the people we talked with said it wasn't
an aggressive sales situation and they received $100
in "Palace Bucks" to spend at the gift shops.

My family stayed at the Copacabana in the Riveria Maya in April
and was thrilled with the facility and service. I spoke to staff
in advance then met with them personally upon arrival.
A Manager named David had the banquet manager and chef join us
and develop a menu/plan for the week. They made specially prepared
items all week (we fended for ourselves for breakfast,
but it was never a problem) and were glad to do it.
There was never a sense of imposition. We tipped those directly
involved handsomely at the end because they were accomodating us
beyond the terms of an all-inclusive and did it so pleasantly.
We're restless and never return to the same place twice,
but this will be an exception!

By the way, there are some great places to go off the reservation.
They even packed a special lunch for us to take!

I've been to Cancun and know that in general the people are really nice
about
that sort of thing. I did not stay in an all-inclusive. I would recommend
checking the sites at tripadvisor.com and trip planning sites like
expedia.com.
There you could pick a few places that meet your needs and then call them
and
talk to some people. I might start with the Moon Palace since I've heard
good
things about it (other than diet) but not sure if they allow kids.
