Thank you to everyone for your wonderful suggestions!!! I am looking forward to my trip and eating safely at some of these restaurants. Rita

We live in Santa Fe. Be sure and try Annapurna restaurant and chai house on W. Alameda where most of the items are gluten free (do not miss the sweet potato pakora or the house chai); the Outback Steakhouse on Cerrillos Rd. near the interstate, where the salmon/broccoli was great, fresh, and clean as a whistle; and Pranzo at Sanbusco Center on Montezuma Street, where right on the menu they say they will substitute quinoa pasta and make the dish gf.

At Outbeak, ask for DeShawn the manager and he will make sure the grill is
cleaned, etc.

There is a wonderful Whole Foods, and a new Trader Joe's.

When I inquired last year several restaurants were willing to do a gluten-free meal if you called at least one to two days ahead: O'Keeffe Cafe, Blue Corn Cafe, Coyote Cafe.

There's a family style eatery called Maria's (Maria's Kitchen?) that makes corn tortillas on the premises and I have a friend who ate GF there successfully.

There is also a casual place called Bumble Bee's Baja Grill at 301 Jefferson/3777 Cerrillos 505-820-2862/505-988-3278 that said their menu contained many GF options (and to ask).

Also:: Annapurna 905 W. Alameda 505-988-9688
10:00 am-8:00 pm Mon-Sat
Vegetarian cuisine and chai house. Delicious food for healing and balance. Vegan and gluten-free. Seasonal
Specialty: Gluten-free South Indian Crepe, $8.95.

And here is a link to several restaurants in Santa fe; with contact numbers.

I've travelled to Santa Fe several times, though not since eating GF. However, I would opt for being a bit adventurous (though you might want to call a restaurant ahead, to check out what time they are not very busy, and also get a sense of how well they respond to the GF issue) and consider just about any high-quality restaurant there. Most of them cook virtually everything to order, and are very conscious about the quality of food and needs of their customers. The food there tends to be quite wonderful. They may not be able to serve you everything on the menu in GF form, but I'll bet they'll all come up with a good selection of things that are safe.

There just seem to be so many options there of foods that are made from fresh meats and vegetables, and from scratch. Also, so many southwestern foods don't have gluten ingredients in them to begin with. The chefs tend to be very sophisticated -- and I generally translate that into being able to provide something safe and also
tasty to eat. Also, I cannot recommend strongly enough these dining cards -- they are simply excellent. I recommend getting the package that has the variety of cuisines: http://www.triumphdining.com

I did happen to do a little googling on Santa Fe, and saw this very interesting bit. I notice in other places where they're talked about on the internet, that they do say they serve GF food.

From the SANTA FE REPORTER:
Best New Restaurant Because Change is Good
Annapurna Chai House
905 West Alameda Street, 988-9688
Just Eat It:
All vegetarian, mostly vegan ayurvedic food? It seems hard to believe that Annapurna that came to Santa Fe from Albuquerque and not the other way around. But we don't care where it came from, Santa Fe is in love with Annapurna.
House Special:
The menu here changes daily in accordance with each day's planetary ruler, but you don't have to understand what that means in order to enjoy the homemade chapatis, dal and samosas. Where else can you >find a vegan, gluten-free marzipan tart flavored with cardamom and rose water?
