It has been known for some time that many autistics and some schizophrenics
appear to manifest fewer symptoms when they are on a GF diet. Some schools
that handle autistics do use a GF diet and report a strong improvement in
more than half, and some cures. Several people have tried Gf diets on
Schizophrenics and had good results with some. I don't remember anyone
claiming complete cures.

I also have never seen any hard controlled studies of this, though I'm not
one to entirely discount the empirical and anecdotal studies. I'd like to
see a controlled study -- I'd also like to try that diet on some of the
profs I work with :) I've always thought it might be relevant that we know
the Irish have a lions share of the celiac, and I've read that we Irish
also have the highest rate of schizophrenia of any ethnic group -- not to
speak of being no. 2 in alcoholism. After all, as my grandfather swore, god
did give us booze so the Irish wouldn't take over the world :) -vance
