There were 27 responses to my inquiry about Nature's Path "Gorilla Munch.

6 people suggested that maybe I had trouble with milk, soy, nuts, or corn. I do not have problems with any of them.

8 people had same or similar reactions as mine and 2 had reactions; 1 to Panda Puffs, 1 to Koala Krisp.

6 people had no reactions except 1 mother of 2 children reported that they stopped eating them some time ago and she believed that they stayed away from what was not good for them.

1 person reported that she had polled the list 2 years ago and half had the exact same reactions.

Finally, two asked if I had contacted the company for changes. I did, but not right away. First, I visited their website and was shocked by what I found. Here is three paragraphs copied from page 1:

WE CAN HELP

It's not easy to find gluten-free food products in your local food store. That's why we make a range of breakfast foods to cater to people with gluten-restricted diets - delicious certified organic breakfast cereals and all-natural waffles sold under the Nature's Path, Envirokidz*, or Lifestream* brands. These foods are made at our plants on the west coast.
(space Inserted deliberately by me)
These facilities are not wheat-free but we do adhere to strict quality control procedures to prevent production line contamination.

SIGNIFICANT PRECAUTIONS

We group the manufacturing of our gluten-free cereals together, effectively isolating them from any products with grains that contain gluten. All processing equipment is thoroughly cleaned before a run of gluten-free cereals. Our equipment is also periodically inspected and tested for gluten contamination. None has ever been detected,

CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN

While we take every measure to enhance the health of our consumers, we recommend you err on the side of safety. Highly gluten sensitive people should with their healthcare provider to determine if our gluten-free foods meet their particular dietary needs.

Since their cereals are marked GLUTEN FREE and their boxes only state that the cereal is made in a facility that has soy and tree nuts, I was shocked to find that they had omitted wheat. I think that I was particularly incensed since they are targeting small children. I am a "classic case" of CD and am very sensitive but I also know that there are many CD's in the younger generation that no longer have the same external reactions as mine but the internal damage is still going on. PART II of my summary will deal with my unhappy contacts with the company in detail and let you know what I further found about the company and my contacts with stores and other agencies.
