I got a few replies to my request about tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E). I
should have clarified that I was concerned about it listed as an
ingredient in lotions and other cosmetics. Recently I saw it listed as an
ingredient in a salad dressing also.

After my post I did some of my own internet research and discovered that
the source is generally plant oils--sunflower, palm, soy and wheat--and
there may be others. In addition there exists a synthetic form in which
case the name is preceded by a "d." As I understand it, unless the
manufacturer/supplier is contacted there is no way to tell what the source
may be. I will have to do more research to find out if tocopheryl acetate
in its pure form is contains any residual gluten even if it does come from
a gluten source.

Ah well, back to making phone calls.
Thanks for your help,
Gina
