I am a PT but have interests in special education (I hold a master's degree
in that area) and my PhD dissertation for physical therapy was on self
concept in children with CP. So I am a little warped individual. I do not
have a psychology degree, but am interested in children and adults
holistically and treat according to the World Health Organization's
International Classification on Functioning, Disability and Health (
http://www.who.int/classifications/icf/en/*).*

With that being said, I have concerns regarding home schooling and the
possibility of big fish little pond effect. This is an idea regarding a
child's self concept and how it may change as the child becomes older and
changes his/her comparison grouping. By changing comparison grouping, level
of abstract thinking, and analysis of how s/he measures his/her
capabilities as s/he ages this will change how s/he thinks about
him/herself. This can change in a positive and negative manner. I find this
area very interesting and am researching how integration/mainstreaming may
affect a child's psychological development in this area.....Anyway I would
encourage you to read more on this area as you contemplate home schooling
vs. regular education

Just my two cents,

Greta
