Dear listmates -
WOW!
I was diagnosed with Celiac Sprue in late April or
early May of 1999, at age 52.
Before that, I had a hysterectomy/oophorectomy in
1992 for very severe polycytic ovaries and fibroids, etc.
I took hormones (HRT), minerals, vitamins, etc. but showed
mild or borderline Osteoporosis when I had a DEXA
(bone density scan) done in 1994, then every time I
had the DEXA repeated.
After being strictly gluten-free since my Celiac diagnosis,
and walking at 4 miles an hour on a treadmill and some
resistance machines at health club (or walking outside) -
1 mile walking or more, 1- 2 times a day, I had a DEXA
3 weeks ago.
It shows SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE in bone density.
The funny thing is, I cut the hormones to 1/2 or 1/3
almost a year ago and take very little, so it isn't the
hormones.
It is the increase in absorption from a strict gluten-free diet,
and the aerobic exercise.
So, listmates, the gluten-free diet really does work!
I no longer have Osteoporosis! HURRAY!
