Thanks to everyone who responded.

The unanimous response is that maltodextrin is safe, derived from corn, and
has nothing to do with malt.

Sources cited for this conclusion included "Acceptability of Foods and Food
Ingredients for the Gluten-Free Diet-Pocket Dictionary" published by the
Canadian Celiac Association, Bette Hagman's "The Gluten-Free Gourmet" (malto-
dextrin made from cornstarch at p. 6); the Canadian Celiac Association
(Edmonton Chapter) Product Information Book 1997; and the Frito Lay Company.

Frito Lay provided me with a great list of *all* their gluten free products.
You can request this same list by calling 1-800-352-4477 between 9 a.m. and
4:30 p.m. CST.

Additionally, you can find Frito Lay on the web at: http://www.fritolay.com.

Thanks again! I am happy to know that I can safely feed my junk food craving!
:-)
