Hi!
I am posting this response to Karen's question about Farley's Halloween Candy
Corn and Pumpkins to the List since it seems to be of general interest.
My package of Candy Corn lists the usual ingredients which I have verified
with the company each of the past few years as GF. This listing is unchanged,
however, at the bottom of the list of ingredients is the following:
.........."May also contain traces of milk solids, wheat, nuts (peanuts,
walnuts, almonds, pecans and cashews), and soy protein."

I have verified with the company that this is a general disclaimer for people
with severe allergies. I feel we will see more and more of these disclaimers
as companies seek to protect themselves and consumers, however it does not
necessarily mean the product is more or less safe (GF) than it was previously.
This morning I spoke to Leonia at #800-225-7321 who assured me that the
ingredients have not changed in their Candy Corn or their Pumpkins. She
stated that the specific ingredients listed in the disclaimer are not added to
the product, nor are they necessarily in products run on the same lines at any
time or present in the same area. Leonia will send an official letter, which
I will post to the List when I receive it.
It would seem that people with allergies have made inroads to recognition from
the food manufacturers. Maybe our day will come also.

Happy and safe eating,
Coralie in NJ, USA
