From time to time there are persons complaining of medical service,
diet not being followed by the hospital, uncooperative pharmacists,
etc.
I have just learned one can make complaints regarding health care
service to the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care
Organizations -JACHO. JACHO is the accrediting body for all
hospitals and health organizations to be approved for medicare
reimbursement. Most private insurances and state health plans also
follow JACHO's accreditation. As a nurse I know that all hospitals
and health systems listen to JACHO as without it our reimbursement
would be nil. You cannot believe what extent we went to in our
hospital to meet JACHO's requirement.
To make a complaint, one should be very specific as to date of
treatment, health organization involved, and the nature of the
complaint. One cannot just write the doctors did not know anything
about celiac as JACHO can only investigate specific incidences.
However, I do believe if they take up the cause, it will be very
effective for Celiacs to get better medical care. The address is:
Division of Accreditation Operations
Accreditation Sevice Specialist
Joint Commission Accreditation of Health Care Organizations
1 Residence Boulevard Oak Bridge
Terrance Il 60181.
