Michelle,
I'm not sure what country you live in, but here in the U.S. many university
psychology departments and some hospital-based internship and residency
programs (in psychology and psychiatry) offer psychotherapy services for very
low fees (even as low as $1-$10, or sometimes for no fee, if that's all you
can afford). You might try that route at your local university or hospital.
Many psychoanalytic training centers also offer low-fee psychotherapy
services as well.
If, as you said, you think the solution lies in seeking out a therapist, then
you might wonder why you are seeking help in a forum which you imply might
not offer the best solution to what might be a more complicated problem.
Psychotherapists cannot handle guilt any better than most people, but one
might be able to help you figure out why you are worried about moving forward
with your growth.
Best wishes with your difficult predicament.
