I was on Creon for six months prior to diagnosis. This is not
registered as a drug, therefore I had to fight to get my insurance
company to cover it. The drug store informed me that they can be bought
without prescription but are cheaper with a prescription. From what I
understand it is enzymes that aid in digestion. My doctor took blood
tests and concluded that my pancrease was not doing its job. She
prescribed Creon 8, I think I was taking 8 per day. They made a very
big difference in my symptoms.
I might add that once I was diagnosed with Celiac my specialist said to
keep taking them till I got a handle on my new diet. He also said I
would know when I didn't need them anymore, and he was right. Two weeks
gluten free with no symptoms and they were not needed. I hope this
information helps answer the question from Moira Sunday 24, August.
