Chelation is a process to bind heavy metals and excrete them from the body.
Chelation agents surround the metal atom and bind it. Chelation is a
treatment for heavy metal poisoning, such as lead poisoning. Humans need
small amounts of lots of heavy metals. These are trace "minerals" that we
take in vitamin and mineral supplements. Examples are cobalt in vitamin
B12, zinc, manganese, magnesium, and iron. You can see why removing metals
from the body can be very dangerous. It an deplete the body of essential
trace minerals.
