I wondered what bentonite was too, and mentioned it to my husband last
night. He looked startled, and said it was a kind of clay used to line
landfills (he works for the Maryland St. Dept. of the Environment, and
spent several years in Solid Waste Management). He said it is so fine
and packs so hard that it prevents leakage of waste materials into
the groundwater if properly applied. He couldn't imagine why anyone
would take it internally, although he opined that it might block up
the intestines pretty good. Perhaps it would deter absorption of the
gluten if taken promptly?
