Hello all - I've been lurking for several months now (with deep gratitude
to all of you), but haven't posted till now. ... a very good friend
of mine is celiac & I am providing her link to the www and to you.
Missy (my celiac friend) is very sick right now and we could use some
help and advise.

History: diagnosed by a dr. approx. 1-1/2 yrs. ago, mostly by
elimination diet. Both gluten and lactose intolerant. Has been very
good about the diet right from the beginning, and has been gluten free
since March (as close as is possible). At that time, she switched from
pepcid (for her very acid stomach) to prilosec. The manufacturer told
Missy the prilosec was gluten free, but not lactose free. Assuming the
lactose was in the gel cap, she has been buying 100% vegetable gel caps
from the health food store and reloading the medication into the vegie
caps. The only other medication she takes is synthroid - which she has
been on since a radioactive iodine treatment in 1992. Her dosage has
been changed almost every 3 mos. since then, in order to adjust for
ups and downs in her levels.

Tuesday she got very sick again, but we are unable to identify a trigger.
Although it has let up a little bit, she is still very gaseous, bloated,
and nauseated, she has no appetite and is fatigued. She is seriously
miserable.

So here are our questions:
1. Can anyone tell us how to get back on an even keel?

2. She has to take something for her acid stomach. If pepcid has gluten
and prilosec has lactose, what can she take?

3. Why does her thyroid level vary so much - up and down and level then
up, etc.? 4. Her symptoms seem worst first thing in the morning. Is
there any possiblity that post-nasal drip is exacerbating the stomach
problems? She is also having more trouble with her allergies in the
morning. (We already changed the pillow etc.) Ideas?

5. Why does it seem to be better when she's asleep?

6. Does anybody know where to buy English Muffin rings?
(Hagman, Book 2, p75).
