<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>

The number of personal replies to the Celiac List is becoming a problem.
Anytime that you compose a reply to a message from our List, you should
think about the value of the reply and its applicability to the sender
or the other 1154 subscribers.

If your reply offers additional information about the subject, then send
the reply to the List; but if it only offers moral support or says
'me too', the reply should be sent to the poster. Replies to the poster
are handled differently by each mail program. One fallback is to send
personal replies as new messages.

We've decided to change the List so that replies go back to the original
sender by default. This should eliminate the problem of personal
replies accidentally being sent to the List. To reply to the List, you
must add the List address or on some mail programs use the reply-all
option.

This means that some interesting followup thoughts may accidentally be
sent only to the original sender, and lost to the subscribers. The
Listowners request that when you receive a reply that would be of
interest to others, please summarize and post it back to the List.

The Listowners were somewhat hesitant to make this change, as it makes
replying to the list less handy for you. We will see what affect
this has the list, and change it back if it appears to be detrimental.

Last week Celiac averaged 17 messages per day.

For the next few days, a notice will be added to the bottom of each
message as a reminder of the changed destination. An example of the notice
follows:

* Reminder, the default reply destination is the poster, not the Celiac List *
