I'm also a tooth-grinder. I had TMJ so badly once that my jaws locked.
After treating me with muscle relaxers and pain killers, my dentist fit me
with a splint that fits over my top teeth and holds my bottom teeth in
place to cut down on the grinding. I still clench my teeth, but that
doesn't seem to hurt as much. Ask your dentist about one of these splints.
It's been a real lifesaver for me. In fact, I'm going to have to have a
new one made since the indentions for the bottom teeth are beginning to
wear down.
And just for the record, I also had lots of cavities as a child, but not
now, and I have discolorations on my teeth--even one place about like a
kernel of rice that had no enamel at all on a front incisor.
