This is in response to a previous message about Kraft Foods not having a
gluten-free list. The problem starts with the FDA and Agricultural dept.(who
regulate labels on meat and foul, including processed foods, like soup). I
was very disappointed after listening to a representative from the FDA about
labeling, at the CSA conference in San Francisco. She stated that they have
no LEGAL definition of gluten-free and have no plans for one at this time.
Therefore, there is no plan to require companies to include GLUTEN-FREE in
the future. She suggested we contact our congressmen and get started
lobbying in this area. I recommended that a committee SERIOUSLY get to work
on this issue in CSA. I hope something constructive comes of this. As it is,
even the new label laws are not a bog help to us! Any comments graciously
accepted. Lynn Samuel, from Omaha, temporarily in California
