Question was: I will be having knee replacement surgery and instead of
Coumadin this time, Doctor would like to use Xarelto so I don't have to
have blood drawn every couple of days. Wondered how others have reacted to
Xarelto?
I can't speak to the gluten content of either of those, but I thought you
might want to know that there are class action lawsuits in the works
against Xarelto. Coumadin is a pain with the blood work, but I think
Xarelto has a lot of unknowns. I know this isn't what you're asking about,
but I couldn't, in good conscience, not respond. My father died of a stroke
last year, and the first question several of his doctors asked was if he
was taking Xarelto. Sorry to be a downer.
I've seen it used quite a bit and no problems. Likely safer than
Coumadin/warfarin.
I have used Xarelto every day for almost two years with no problems. I
started it after an ablation to repair atrial fibrillation and because of
various factors am supposed to use it forever. I react immediately and
very strongly to ingesting gluten but do not have celiac and have been
gluten free for twenty years. However, lactose is not a problem for me.
Good luck,
Hi - I read your post on the Listserv and wanted you to know that I used
Xarelto for 2 weeks following my hip operation in early 2014. No adverse
effects. However I have since seen ads for lawsuits so not sure what I
would do now. I have seen knee replacements done with no blood thinner
used. For my other hip replacement in 2012 I had to use an injection
blood thinner for 4 weeks, That was a lot of trouble and pain so I was
relieved to only be taking a pill. Good luck on the surgery and keep us
informed on the Listserv.
