I'm currently in st louis children's hospital observing my 16 year old daughter
who has been gluten free for 8 years. She was admitted on Monday and is
receiving a probable Chron's dx. I'm heartbroken.
She has serious complications: an abscess (w/infection), obstruction and fistula
(from bowel to bowel). She is on IV antibiotics and will continue for another
two weeks. At that time she'll be re-imaged to determine if she needs surgery
to remove the abscess and obstruction.
She's had bowel rest (no food) for 4 days and will reintroduce liquids and then
low-residue foods this w/end.
I am wondering if there are listserve members who have experience w/this? If so,
do you have any words of wisdom to share? I'm filled with concern of possible
surgery, drugs w/side effects and a lifetime of management. Please do not send
anything heavy duty.
TY,
Linda
