If anyone can direct this to CPPARENT liserv it may be helpful info. I got
bumped off because I went away and too much mail built up in my box so I
was automatically taken off and I don't even know how to rejoin at this
point. But I wanted to pass along some info on new technology that my son
just
tried which is being studied at the NIH (National Institute of Health in
Maryland) on CP children with success. If your child is ambulatory there is
an
assistive device that is placed around knee that gives electrical stim to
place foot correctly. Some insurances are paying for this in their view it
is cheaper than surgery.My son just turned 19 so we would probably have to
pay out of pocket, but my son is happy with his awkward gait so I'm not
sure we will pursue. I thought he planted foot better on his 15 minute
trial
which over time would probably improve his gait. It's very new technology
and if you wish to consider, the only contact person I know is Gregg
Beideman
at Innovative Neurotronics at (888) 884-6462 ext 1936. I met him at the
Polyclinic in Harrisburg where he was trying it on an MS patient.
