The Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG) of Indianapolis presents:

~ ~ ~ Gluten Free HEALTHY BASICS Meeting ~ ~ ~

NEXT TUESDAY, June 19th, 7 PM

Led by GIG of Indy Registered Dietitian, Lori Petrie
St. Vincent Hospital, 86th St., Indianapolis, IN

SPECIAL TOPIC:

ALL ABOUT **BONE HEALTH** AND BEING GF

Osteoporosis is a serious condition in which the bones become less dense and more likely to fracture. And the more you know, the better you will be prepared to fight this condition! Osteoporosis is often a complication of celiac disease, due to malabsorption of important nutrients (such as calcium) in the small intestine. If you have celiac disease, you may be 4.5 times more likely to develop osteoporosis!

Additionally, many who have celiac disease or gluten intolerance also cannot consume dairy/casein -- and, thus, often do not get sufficient amounts of calcium in the diet through milk products.

This is an extremely important health issue, whether you are old or young! The bone mass attained early in life is possibly the most important determinant of life-long skeletal health.

Discussion will include:

• How to get sufficient calcium and Vitamin D, both critical to healthy bones
• Exercises you can do designed to strengthen your bones
• Lifestyle changes you can effect for better bone health
• How to find out if you are already affected by weak bones
• Osteoporosis medications and therapies, and some recent findings about medications that everyone should know about

Join us to learn critical information to protect yourself from this debilitating condition! And, as always, some time will be allowed for general questions about celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Meet others in your community who share the same frustrations and issues that you do!

The meeting is FREE -- but please RSVP to Lori at <[log in to unmask]>
