First, I would like to thank all the offers of ideas for my daughter
travelling to Washington D.C. with her school. As always, this gluten free
community has helped me more times than I can count. Nobody understands GF
the way someone else who is living gluten free. So, I would like to offer
great big thanks to all of you.

To summarize, I received many great ideas for shelf stable foods.
Unfortunately, many of them were ideas I already use, but it helped to
confirm for me that I am doing everything I should be for her. One idea I
received over and over again, were the GoPicnic meals. If you haven't seen
them, I compare them to a Lunchable, only GF and healthier. There are
several varieties to choose from. We have not tried hummus yet, so that is
on the agenda, as perhaps the GoPicnics would help her on her trip.

Many other suggestions I received were the Individual peanut butter packs
with fruit, or crackers.. Pretzels, crackers, granola, KIND bars, Think
Thin, or the Enviro Kids bars. There are Hormel Pepperoni sticks that are
shelf stable that may be good to send also. Muffins, dry cereal, may also be
good for use at the hotel buffet for breakfast.

The Smithsonian group of museums is difficult to navigate from my
understanding as the only place that provides gluten free for purchase, is
the Native American museum. If this has changed please let me know, as that
particular one is not on the agenda.

Our school will also be stopping at a Wegmans grocery store on the way down,
so she can stock up on items there and restock on the way home. Living in
Wegmans HQ, for those that don't know, it is a true luxury to have this
grocery store in our backyard, and to be able to travel to one, is a great
plus.

I have requested a refrigerator for her room, so she may be able to pack a
few things in there. I have recently purchased a PackIt insulated keeper
that is suppose to keep foods cold for 10 hours.. it's about the size of a
small insulated lunch box,so hoping it will fit in the freezer section of
the dorm size refrigerator from the hotel.

I received some suggestions for websites to visit that may shed some good
info on the city for dining gf. My daughter will be eating with her
group(almost 200 kids) so I will be checking out her itinerary to speak to
those places. However, I was told there are many good gluten free
restaurants within D.C.

There is a support group there also, with helpful information on the
website.

To those that asked me to summarize, I hope this helps with your own
planning. If you would like more info about how it went, please let me know
and will summarize directly to you after she returns.

Thanks again!
