Gf crabcakes at Uno's? I wrote to corporate and got this reply. My email to corporate is below.

Linda,

Problem is they may not have wheat, but they are not on the gluten free
list because in the process of making them there could be cross
contamination. This could be in our handling them (not changing gloves
or preparing them in an area that is not gluten free) or our vendor is
not a gluten free manufacturer and part of their ingredients could be
contaminated.

I would not have them without speaking to a manager first and seeing
what precautions his staff takes to ensure your well being. Please know
that on items that are prepared for someone that can't have gluten there
are procedures given to our cooking staff that they follow to protect
you. Because the crab cakes are not on this list, there are no
instructions for them to follow. Speak to a manager, please, before
trying them.

Subject: crabcakes gluten-free?

Are the crabcakes that are now carried by Uno's (in Maple Shade, NJ)
gluten-free?

I have celiac and truly appreciate your gluten-free menu and how the
kitchen handles it. I am a regular customer at Uno's because of that.

Today, I had a waitress I have never met before (Daria R.), who was well
informed and attentive. But I just want to double check the information
she gave me about the crabcakes being gluten-free....so I'm writing to
you to find out. She said none of the ingredients contain gluten, that
there is no filler, and that the way they're prepared, they would be
fine. But I always write to corporate headquarters about new products,
just to be sure.

I await your reply. I am on a celiac listserv of thousands of members.
I'm sure they'd love to hear you carry gluten-free crabcakes, too.
Thank you.
