Thanks to all of you who shared your dining experiences for Charlottesville.
It looks like we have plenty of choices. I have listed the responses below
- including a very helpful webpage resource that lists the local GF
information.
It is comforting to go in to a new town with information from those who have
dined successfully in the area.
Thanks for all the help as we plan our trip!

There is an Outback that we ate in the one night we stayed there, about 5
miles north on the big main highway. Sorry, I don't recall the route number.
There is an Outback in Charlottesville. There is also a Whole Foods Market.

I have begun to gather the names of restaurants that can accommodate a
gluten free diet. I have not visited any of these however. There is also a
Whole Foods in Charlottesville. We did get lunch there when we visited the
school.
Rise Pizza
Red Robin
Chipotle
Cheeseburger in Paradise
Outback Steakhouse
Bonefish Grill
I haven't jotted down addresses yet for these places so you will have to
google them.
* good gluten free pizza, but the eating area is pretty barebones and
noisy http://www.risepizzaworks.com/index.html
* good fine dining http://savour-resturant.com No official gluten
free items on the menu, but the chef owns the place and he will come out and
ask you want you like and cook something gluten free for you. He is VERY
nice.
My two favorite places in C'ville remain Rise Pizzaworks in the Barracks
Road Shopping Center (which is very careful about cross-contamination) and
the Flat, a creperie near the pedestrian mall downtown. The Flat will make
pure buckwheat crepes which are really good but it uses the same surfaces to
produce them as regular ones so watch that if you're super sensitive.
The Boar's Head Inn is a place that stands out for me there. I have never
spent the night, but others tell me it is great. However I have been there
for business meetings several times, and they always get me a super meal
that is safe, and makes the others in my group envious! The only other
place I can immediately remember eating there is Chipotle. Oh, and the
Double Tree Hotel--I do not recommend the Double Tree--they think that
bringing me two salads counts as a meal!
