Yesterday I requested information from any of you who have used Patak's Mild
Curry Paste, and I also sent a letter to ACH Consumer Affairs to ask if this
product is tested by British standards, since it is manufactured in the UK.

I received about 10 replies, all saying they eat Patak's products without
any symptoms.

I received the following prompt note from ACH Consumer Affairs.

While all of the Patak items are gluten free, they are produced in a
facility (in the UK) that does also produce some gluten containing products.
While we are extremely careful in the manufacturing process to guard against
cross contamination, there is a possibility this can occur.

I wrote her back asking again if the curry paste was actually tested by
either ACH or Patak's in UK. Diane called me on the phone today to explain
that the product is not ELISA tested here or in UK, but none of their
products include gluten as an ingredient. They do use a line that makes
gluten containing ingredients, and it has been carefully cleaned. She also
told me that she is celiac herself, and is a registered dietitian. Also, no
one has ever called them with gluten problems about their products.

I will contact the UK office of Patak and see if I can find out how they
determine the status of their products. It sounds like they do as good a
job as possible, but I still can't think of any other reason for my two
reactions. When I know more, I will summarize again.
