I have experienced difficulty verifying gluten status in brand name
prescription meds, and have experienced extreme difficulty in trying to
contact the manufacturer of generic prescription meds. OTC meds can also be
difficult to verify the manufacturer, so I understand that pharmacists are
not the best resource to verify the gluten status of OTC meds.

Here in the US, The FDA regulates both foods and drugs. With their Food
Allergen laws, additional labeling and manufacturing requirements are making
food safer. I hope that this awareness will soon cross over to meds (OTC and
rX). The transcript from the August 2005 meeting on Gluten Free Food
Labeling shows a lot of regulatory awareness of the importance of that
topic- perhaps it will soon includes medicines.
