Thanks to all of you who responded to my question about potato free breads and other GF goodies.  I have problems with potatoes (a nightshade veggie) and arthritis.  It has been long known about how many people are affected by eating nightshades and feeling arthritis symptoms.

Here is how everyone responded:

It might not be "nightshades" but potassium overload.  Potassium is an elusive nutrient, but I've had some problems with it -- at least I think that I have.  It's so important to have sufficient potassium, but there is also the more rare end of the scale, when people get too much.  I think that I had this problem when I was taking a potassium-sparing blood pressure medicine (many 
are), combined with an antibiotic that did the same thing.  I was so bad that I stopped one of the drugs, along with cutting down my potassium-rich foods, and felt much better -- but I wished I'd had a blood test while all that was going on, so I could have known.  Potatoes are EXTREMELY high in potassium, as are tomatoes, winter squash, dark leafy veggies (like chard or spinach) and most fish.  As I said, this is normally a very important nutrient to make sure you get enough of, and most doctors never consider that one might have too much instead of too little.  What you probably need to do is eat your normal diet, which might include potatoes -- and have the doctor order a blood test for you, to test for presence of various minerals in your system.  Just be sure your potassium readings are normal.  I'm not saying this is what you have -- but if you're sensitive to 
eating too many potatoes, you perhaps ought to consider getting tested.

I have a problem with potato starch and corn starch, because of sulfite sensitivity.  I don't react to baked potatoes, but I do react to most frozen potato products because they are treated with sulfites.  It's very hard to shop GF with this sensitivity because potato and corn are in most prepared products.

I do have this problem and first noticed it with tomatoes. I later cut out potatoes and both those made a big difference in my arthritis and joint pains. I buy the frozen food for life brand brown rice bread or black china rice. They are ok when toasted and don't contain potato. Hope you can find this brand near you. I think it comes from california. I buy it here on long island at whole foods.

yes, and eggplant is even worse than potatoes for me. I don't touch eggplant, potatoes or peppers and limit tomatoes.

I get bone pain from potato starch, along w/ blistering dermatitis. It's a nitrate/nitrite reaction since I get a from other vegetables and cured meats as well. (Needless to say, my g.f. diet is interesting...

Namaste mixes are potato free.  (They do contain tapioca and arrowroot, both of which are tubers and could also have nitrates.) Sold at GF Trading Co, Milwaukee www.food4celiacs.com & Whole Foods.  

Since the allergen labeling bill came out, Kraft and other local brands of cheese has switched from methylcellulose to potato starch to keep cheese from sticking. Possibly because of price. Bordon's uses cornstarch  Ener-Q used to use corn & soy in some of their pretzels and has now switched to soy & potato instead.  I'm not a happy camper on that one. GF pretzels were a nice treat!

Are sweet potatoes any better for you?  I eat a lot of them.

I cannot eat potatoes, black pepper, or chili powder.  I seem to be okay with tomatoes.  I do not eat any of the bread mixes and would not eat anything with potato flour or starch.

I also have problems with potatoes, if I eat a lot or eat them two days
running. While eating them, my throat constricts (an uncomfortable
feeling but not life threatening - I appreciate the difference because I
have anaphylactic reactions to peanuts and shellfish). 

I also have CD related joint pain, with severe flair ups associated with
rare gluten accidents, but haven't considered whether the joint pain is
worse when I eat potatoes or not. I will now though!

Gluten-free Naturals doesn't use potato in any of their products.  Their pancakes and pizzaria style crust are my favorites.  I think all of their products are excellent.  Here is their web page.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question.  There are online searches you can do regarding nightshade vegetables and arthritis.  It is also mentioned in a huge book I have "Prescription For Natural Healing."  I refer to it all of the time and it is available at GNC and other health food stores.

Some people are sensitive towards nightshades and others have no problems.  Potatoes are the worst for me, I have no problems with any of the others, although I must say that I don't think I have ever eaten eggplant.  I do eat a lot of sweet potatoes  and have no problems with those, as they are not a nightshade.
