Thanks to everyone who replied to my question about ferritin levels. It
seems most people agree 100 is a good number to shoot for. It also seems
that coming from a 4 to 50 in such a short time is very good so I should
not complain that I need to continue the iron therapy. I agree.
Suggestions given about eating iron rich foods included everything from
eating a lot of spinach to not eating spinach as it has some binding
factor that doesn't allow iron absorption. Most agreed red meat was a
great source of iron and it could be taken with Vit. C to enhance it's
absorption. I switched from cranberry juice to grapefruit juice to get
more vitamin C. I'll continue checking my iron and stores levels every six
month and hope to eventually get off the iron pills, while continuing to
eat iron rich foods.
Thanks again to everyone. As usual there is more knowledge on this list
than with most of my doctors combined :). Happy Spring!
